Medical Research Program

In 2009, Richard Rainwater was diagnosed with Progressive Supranuclear Palsy (PSP), a rare neurodegenerative disease that causes serious problems with walking, balance, and vision. PSP is one of several neurodegenerative diseases classified as a tauopathy due to the accumulation of tau protein in the brain. Determined to help others suffering from PSP, Mr. Rainwater assembled a team of the leading physicians and researchers from around the world and charged them with working together to find a cure for PSP and other tauopathies.

Medical Research Giving 2021-2022

Our medical research strategy is to use
philanthropic dollars to address pressing gaps
in the field of primary tauopathies. These gaps include basic research, drug discovery, clinical trials, or new talent that might be overlooked by traditional sources of funding.
